I’m working on a writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
1. Familiarize yourself with the genre of op-eds. Read sample op-eds in the SJSU News (Links to an external site.). Review the Op-Ed Project (Links to an external site.) website.
2. Develop a persuasive argument about a topic you have researched in the past. Ideally, it should be a Public Health or Nutrition topic.
3. Write a short op-ed. Include:
a. The lede or “hook”
b. Your overall message or opinion
c. Information and statistics with citations hyperlinked (Links to an external site.)
d. A call to action (your audience is fellow students– either convince them they need to know this information or ask them to take action)
4. Edit your op-ed so it is effective at ~300 words long (by document word count). Word count: 250-350 words. Use minimum 2 sources for citations and use statistics to illustrate issue.
