Answer the following questions from this week’s reading from The Norton Reader: Henry David Thoreau Where I Lived, and What I Lived For (pp. 564-573).
1. Henry David Thoreaus title might be rephrased as two questions: Where did I live? and What did I live for? What answers does Thoreau give to each?
2. Throughout this essay Thoreau poses questionsfor example, Why is it that men give so poor an account of their day if they have not been slumbering? (paragraph 7) or Why should we live with such hurry and waste of life? (paragraph 11). To what extent does he answer these questions? Why might he leave some unanswered or only partially answered?
3. Thoreau is known for his aphorisms (short, witty nuggets of wisdom). Find one you like and explain its relevance for living today.
