CDEV 53 CCSF Reflection paper on Kindezi Discussion
The focus of this assignment is the Middle Childhood Life Stage. Middle childhood like adolescence is a Western concept and with all culturally informed theories and concepts the beliefs of the culture will guide its tenets.
You will need to read the entire “Kendezi” textbook.(below it attached) As you read the book think about the theories and concepts in Chp 11 – 13 in the primary course textbook. Using the information from both sources and an additional course handouts and lectures, answer the following questions in narrative form:
- Compare the life stages between this African culture and the USA culture. How are they different? How are they similar? What is the rationale used for the comparative middle childhood life stage?
- What role, if any, does gender play in the African and Western view of this life stage?
- How does cognitive development occur in both cultures. Discuss similarities and differences.
- Think about the Sadulu, discuss this through a Western lens and determine the pros and cons of both systems.
- What is the role of the mother in both this African culture and the Western culture? Discuss similarities and differences. What, if any, connection exists between the middle childhood individual and the mother.
- From your reading of the Kindezi book and the primary text book from chp 1 – 13, write a reflection of no more than 1.5 pages and no less than 3 paragraphs.
