Description
A student nurse, Deb, is working as a nurse assistant at an assisted living facility in the summer. Deb has passed the medication administration competency test, and so she helps administer oral medications on her shifts. Normally Deb dispenses the pills from the medication cart that is clearly marked for each resident. Deb realizes all medications must be given within a window of time.
On one mid-day medication pass, Debs coworker, Lynn, is running behind schedule. Lynn gives Deb a cup of pills and tells Deb to give them to the patient in room 23, Vivian. Deb realizes that she did not check that the medications are correct for Vivian. She didnt look at Vivians medication orders and she didnt verify that the pills in the cup are actually the pills Vivian is supposed to take. Deb knows that Lynn is very careful when she dispenses resident medications, but she cannot verify that today Lynn was completely accurate. Lynn will be in trouble with their supervisor if she does not complete the medication pass in time.
