About the institution
A brief history of the college: The College of Banking and Financial Studies is a government institution established pursuant to Royal Decree No. (64/83) establishing the Omani Banking Institute, Royal Decree No. 83/98 amending the name and powers of the Omani Banking Institute to the Institute of Banking and Financial Studies, and the decision of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank. The Honorable Omani No. 1379/2000 issuing the statute of the Institute of Banking and Financial Studies, and Royal Decree No. 12/2004 transforming the Institute of Banking and Financial Studies into the College of Banking and Financial Studies, and to Board of Governors Resolution No. 2804/2017 amending the statute of the College of Banking and Financial Studies. The college is under the supervision of the Central Bank of Oman. It provides education and training, encourages scientific research in the banking and financial fields, and supports banking and financial sector institutions to meet their human resource needs by offering training, professional and academic programmes. *The college’s mission: Providing innovative learning opportunities that contribute to inspiring and qualifying learners in the banking and financial sectors and the finance sector through sharing learning experiences, applied research, and the effective participation of the relevant sectors and stakeholders. *The college’s vision: For the college to become the first choice for learners in the banking and financial sector and the banking finance sector at the local and regional levels. *College values: 1) Integrity: The college has the qualities of justice, integrity, transparency, and responsibility in all its activities and operations. 2) Excellence: The college is keen to obtain the best standards in terms of providing its educational programs and in all its operations. 3) Partnership: The college provides a welcoming, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for its students, employees, and the community at large. 4) Professionalism: The college is efficient, and all its dealings are based on ethical values and principles. 5) Inclusiveness: The college treats its students and employees equally and applies the principle of fairness in all its dealings. Achievements: • In 2019, the College of Banking and Financial Studies obtained institutional accreditation from the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation, thus becoming the first government college in the Sultanate to obtain institutional accreditation. • The college received the Best External Chapter Award in 2019 from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. • The College published the third volume of its edited book on “Diversifying the Omani Economy for Sustainable Development: Strategic Issues and Imperatives” as part of initiatives to enhance research and knowledge transfer. • The College also received the Excellence Award in Building National Talent in the Field of Banking in the Sultanate in 2017. 2017 AD. • The college also received the International Star Award for Quality in 2013 AD during the fifteenth annual conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, which was organized by the Business Initiative Direction Foundation (BID). • In 2011 AD, the college also received Asia Award for the Best Educational Institution in the Field of Banking and Insurance from the Asian Business Federation. • In 2010, the college received the Best Business School Award in Asia from the CMO Council in Singapore. • Since 2008, the college has achieved the gold level in student results annually (ACCA) • The college achieved third place in the administrative and executive performance evaluation according to the results of studies conducted by the “Oman Economic Review” magazine for the most trusted brands in the Sultanate, within the category of higher education institutions.
Dean of the College Dr. Zahran bin Salem Al-Salati Dr. Zahran bin Salem Al-Salti was appointed Dean of the College of Banking and Financial Studies due to his extensive experience of more than 23 years in the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation and Sultan Qaboos University.Dr. Zahran Al-Salti began his professional career at the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and held a number of positions. He was most recently Director of Postgraduate Studies at the General Directorate of Scholarships. Then he moved in 2004 to Sultan Qaboos University, as a member of the teaching staff at the College of Economics and Political Science, in addition to his work as Director of the Center for Community Service and Continuing Education during the period 2017-2020.Dr. Zahran holds a bachelor’s degree from the United States of America, and master’s and doctoral degrees from the United Kingdom.
