This week’s forum requires you to first spend some time conducting some research of your own. A few basic Google searches should be sufficient. This week’s reading (Chapter 2) discusses why leaders lose their way. Specifically, the book identifies five types of leaders who may lose sight of their True North: imposters, rationalizers, glory seekers, loners, and shooting stars.
I want each of you to research and discuss a leader who is well-known for losing his/her way. You can use businessmen/women, celebrities, politicians (Nixon is a good example, but please don’t make this a political forum), or anyone else throughout history (dead or alive) that meets the criteria. For example, former Enron executives Jeff Skilling and Kenneth Lay seem to be clear choices. Be creative in your choices! Keep your focus on leaders who have lost their way.
In the forum, describe your choice and his/her leadership position (a little background information would be helpful but keep it brief). Why was he/she derailed? Which of the five archetypes discussed in the book is this person?
