Foundations of Effective Assessment
In thinking about assessment, it is important to use tools that are valid and reliable. In your textbook, Measurement and Assessment in Teaching, the authors note that the validity of a classroom assessment procedure refers to the appropriateness of the interpretation and the use made of the results for a given group of individuals, not the assessment procedure itself.
In your area of teaching, describe how you would assure the validity of a summative assessment (test) you would give at the end of an instruction unit by answering these three questions.
- What is/are the learning goal(s) for the unit?
- How you would determine the validity of the test?
- What do you think is the biggest challenge teachers face regarding the validity of assessment?
