The transition between childhood and adulthood is fraught with struggles as the teen strives to become more and more independent. Apparent to most of society are these shifts in behavior. What is not so apparent is what is happening in the teen brain. Research suggests that the way the brain develops and changes during adolescence may make the teen more vulnerable to the effects of drugs and alcohol and to possible brain damage.
