Respond by to at least two of your colleagues’ or professor’s postings in a substantive manner, meaning a minimum of 1 full paragraph. Simple “I agree,” “Good post,” or one-line question posts are not enough for full credit. Be substantive as you engage your colleagues.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial research- based posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Research Requirement: Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to authoritative scientific information sources. Every week you are expected to conduct independent research (beyond the course resources). Cite your research sources and include links whenever possible.

RE: Week 2 Discussion – Natural Cycles and the Human Impact?

COLLAPSE

I choose the biogeochemical cycle, which includes: water cycle, carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and oxygen cycles. The area i want to focus more on is the water cycle. This cycle is one of the most important area we need to focus on. The water cycle helps to distribute water to plants, animals and humans. Water is used to grow plants and the hydrate animals and humans to be able to survive.

Human have a major role in where our water cycle is being broken. The pollution in the water from trash and outside substances has turned our water supply into a nasty area. The world is dealing the issues with products like plastic straws, plastic bags, and items that dont break down over time. Over time we have noticed the impact we do to the planet and make small changes. Some started using reusable products to decrease the amount of trash dumped each year. When using these reusable or biodegradable product we can save what we have left and make the change to better our planet.

Our changes for the environment have slowly made a difference in the water cycle, to help distribute cleaner water in the planet. We also run into issues with other cycles getting effected and leading to a link in whats wrong with our planet. One of those links is the oxygen cycle. The water cycle help to water plants that we need to breathe clean air, as the water cycle decreases so does the healthy plant life we need to live.

RE: Week 2 Discussion – The Water Cycle and the Human Impact?!

COLLAPSE

The water cycle (or hydrologic cycle) is the cycling of water from land, through the atmosphere, and back. The water cycle involves the processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. When water evaporates it becomes water vapor which is an important greenhouse gas (nationalgeographic.org, 2019). Greenhouse gases insulate the Earth and warm it enough to be able to maintain life as we know it.

Water is helpful in many ways. Water provides irrigation for farmers. It can also be used to make hydroelectricity. We humans can impact the water cycle through the expelling of greenhouse gases and deforestation.

One way humans impact the water cycle is through deforestation. Trees release water vapor through transpiration. This water vapor evaporates through the atmosphere before becoming precipitation and falling back to Earth’s surface. When trees are cut down there is less transpiration of water vapor and thus there is less precipitation or rain. When there is no rain the lands become drier and when it does rain the water is more likely to run off instead of soak into the dry ground. These areas of deforestation are now more susceptible to droughts and flooding and the plants, animals, and humans living nearby are affected (sciencelearn.org, n.d.). Runoff can also cause erosion to damage the land.

There are some ways we can combat deforestation. We can plant a tree whenever possible or replant the cut trees. It is helpful to go paperless whenever possible. Buy recycle products whenever they are available and recycle as much as we can. We can also help by supporting companies that support deforestation and advocating to raise awareness (theworldcounts.com, n,d,).
